When You Get Sick...
- If you feel sick and do not have an appropriate medicine, it
is better to see a physician.
- Examination hours vary from hospital to hospital, but they are
generally from about 9 am to 6 pm with a lunch break from 12 pm
to 2 pm.
- In general, hospitals will not be open at night and on Sundays
and national holidays. (Some hospitals will be also closed on
Thursdays or Saturday afternoons.)
- If an accident or sudden illness occur at night, weekend, or
holiday, you should contact emergency medical facilities.
œGoing to a Hospital
- When you are going to visit a hospital, you should bring your
insurance certificate and money with you for the examination fees.
- Choose a hospital appropriate to your symptoms of illness such
as internist, otolarynologist, ophthalmologist and surgeon.
- If you have no idea of choosing an appropriate division, go
to a general hospital. After explaining your symptoms at the reception
desk, you will be directed to the proper place.
- At a dental clinic, the dentist can see patients in the order
of appointment. Other departments in a general hospital, the doctor
can see patients in order of arrival.
œAt the Reception Desk of a Hospital
- When visiting a hospital for the first time, please tell about
that at the reception desk and submit your insurance certificate.
- Fill in an examination form
- In case of arrival order, wait until your turn to see the doctor.
œDuring the Examination
- When your name is called, you will be directed to an examination
room.
- The doctor will ask you some questions about your symptoms.
Most of doctors can speak a little English, but it is better to
bring someone who can interpret with you.
