1 / Change of Uniforms
Public schools and businesses will change their uniforms to winter ones on this day.

Second Monday of October / Health and Sports Day

(A National Holiday)

This national holiday was established to commemorate the anniversary of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. People enjoy sport and cultivate a healthy mind and body.

Mid October / Yamaguchi City Culture Festival
In fall, this festival will be held as a special annual event at Yamaguchi Civic Center. A number of groups of city culture association will perform Japanese dances and read Japanese poems etc. It is open to the public.

Mid October / Iwato Kagura (sacred Shinto dances with music)
It is made up of 16 different kinds of dances with music which are based on Shinto mythology of individual deities.

3 / Culture Day (A National Holiday)
This national holiday was established to celebrate and promote awareness and appreciation of culture in Japan.

Early November / Artful Yamaguchi

This event will be held in the areas of the Odono district where the atmosphere of the old days of Ouchi era is still remained. The entire district will turn into a small art museum.

15 / Seven-Five-Three Day
Boys who are three and five years old and girls who are three and seven years old will be taken to a shrine to pray for their future growth.

Leaves of trees at Park Road and Kido Park will turn into yellows and reds.

This national holiday was established to praise labor, celebrate production and give one another.

23 / Yamaguchi Tenjin Festival
As the Autumn festival for Furukuma Shrine, Hanamiko (flower maidens) and Yakko will parade in the streets. This festival is one of Yamaguchi City's Three Big Festivals (along with the Yamaguchi Gion Festival and the Yamaguchi Lanterns Festival).

A number of products produced in Aio district will be sold at Aio Road Station.

Praying to remove 108 worldly desires a person possesses, people will ring a bell 108 times from midnight at a temple.

New Year's Eve Soba
People eat buckwheat noodles to pray for a long life.
