Originally the day was called Boy's Day. On this day, families
who have a boy in their homes may fly koi streamers and decorate
their homes with armor or samurai dolls.
Early May / Blue Sky Heaven Festival (Ikoi Square)
This festival provides a full day of fun with various events for
both adults and children. It will be held on the Park Road or
Ishin Park.
Early May / Peonies Exhibition
With approximately 2,000 pots of peonies, Ryuuzoji Temple
exhibits peony flowers.

1 / Change of uniforms
Public schools and businesses will change their winter uniforms
to the summer ones.
Early June / A Firefly Season
Many fireflies can be seen at Ichi-no-Saka River. During the Firefly
Festival, which will start in the late May, concerts and other
events will be taken place there. In addition, the Miyano Firefly
Festival will be held near Yamaguchi Fureai Hall with brass ensemble
concerts by local junior high school students and event of throwing
mochi- Japanese rice balls ets.

Third Monday of July / Ocean Day (A National Holiday)
20〜27 / Yamaguchi Gion Festival
Yasaka shrine conduct this traditional sacred festival, and it
has 600 years of history. Sagi Mai -the egrets dance is presented
to the deities on the first day of the festival. On July 24, 3000
citizens will be dancing with the song of "The Lord of Ouchi".
21 / Summer Vacation
Public schools including primary schools, junior high schools,
and high schools will be closed until August 31 for the summer
holidays.
Fourth Saturday of July / "Fushino Summer Festival"
Each year, many lively events by citizens will be held . Fire
works which give a strong impact in front of an audience will
also taken place.
