Spending Winter in Yamaguchi

In recent years, the average day time temperatures in the winter can fall below 5 degrees. The cold weather continues from December to late February. During the coldest period, temperatures may fall below freezing point and snow can be expected. In order to keep yourself warm and comfortable during the winter months, the following items are necessary :

Heating Equipment :

When choosing a heating equipment, types of room, costs , safety features should be taken into account.

◎AC/Air Conditionings:
Heats up a room safely without an accident, but it is expensive in terms of utility.

◎Oil (kerosene) Stoves/Fan Heaters:

Economical, but a room should be ventilated regularly to prevent a room from filling with carbon monoxide. Some people find the smell of kerosene unpleasant, although they heat up a room quickly and evenly. They can be used almost anywhere.

◎Gas Stoves
:
They heat up a room quickly and evenly and quite inexpensive; however an accident of carbon monoxide poisoning might be happened if you fail to ventilate air regularly. Since different types of gas are used by each gas stove, you need to know which types of gas are supplied in your area. Misuse of this equipment might cause a leak in the gas pipe or explosion.

◎kotatsu:
Futons are placed on and under the table with an electric heating element under the tabletop, making a warm pocket where feet can be placed. They do not use large amounts of electricity, thus making it more economical than other electric heating equipment. However, they do not heat the room thoroughly, so it is recommended that use kotatsu with a stove or heater.

◎Other equipment:
Electric heaters, electric carpets, electric blankets, and electric feet warmers are also available.
