Public Telephones/Phone Information
Services
- Pink or Gray phones: accept 10 and 100 yen coins
- Green phones: accept telephone cards, 10 and 100 yen
coins.
- Consecutively many 10 yen coins can be inserted into the phone.
Unused coins will be returned at the end of the call. No changes
will be returned for 100 yen coins.
- Telephone cards are very convenient-they can be purchased at
stations or convenience stores. Telephone cards are sold in 500
and 1,000 yen denominations.

100: In order to find out the
cost of making a call
104: In order to find out the
phone numbers you wish to call /The first service charge is ¥60.
(The service charge from the second time and after in the same months
is ¥90 Morning and late night rates are ¥157). This service if available
24 hours a day,and calling from the public phone is ¥100 per number.
Telephone numbers which are not listed on the Yellow pages won't
be provided.
106: Collect calls (a calling
party wants to place a call at a called party's expense) When making
a call from a public phone, insert 10 or 100 yen coins, or a telephone
card. Coins or a card will be returned to you after hanging up the
phone.
113: Information services for
repairing telephones
115: Domestic telegram services
Not available at public phones.
116: Information service center
for phone installation or relocation.
117: Time
177: Local weather information. In
order to know the weather forecast of other areas, dial the area
code of the city and then dial 177.
