Things to Do in the First
Week
●Upon moving in:
- Greet the landlord ormanager
(It is a good idea to bring someone who can speak Japanese with
you.)
- Start electric, gas, and water services
- Have a name seal made
- Open a bank account
- Buy basic necessities
- Register at City Hall
●Greetings:
Greetings are an important part of custom in living in Japan. It
is suggested that you introduce yourself to those people living
next to your place. .
In Japan there is also a tradition of giving small gifts such as
soaps or towels with your name written on the outside of the package,
though just a verbal greeting is sufficient.
